Want to know how to make money from placing wagers from your mobile phone? Look no further! Here is everything you need to know about how to gamble online in Colorado to win real cash payouts.

Regulated Online Gambling

The first type of gambling made legal in Colorado was horse race betting, legalized back in the 1950s. Placing online wagers on races is legal from inside the state. In 2016, partaking in daily fantasy sports contests was also made legal, giving people inside Colorado even more options to place bets online. More recently, the passing of Proposition DD means online sportsbooks can launch as of 1st May 2020. Currently, there are eight sportsbook mobile apps live in Colorado.

However, there are still some restrictions on online gambling. Internet casino gambling remains illegal and slots, poker, and table games are only permitted when played at a licensed and regulated casino. Similarly, the Colorado Lottery cannot be played nor can lottery tickets be purchased online. Online bingo also remains illegal.

Nevertheless, with the legalization of internet sportsbooks, the world of online betting has opened up to the people of Colorado. Here is a summary of the legalities of different forms of online gambling:

Online Casino Gambling

Online casino gambling in Colorado remains illegal. This includes the prohibition of internet slots, poker, and other table games. Many online sites will claim they do offer licensed and legitimate forms of casino gambling for real money but do not fall for these claims. Often sites advertise themselves as offering legal internet gambling as where they are based, online casino games are legal. However, even if the site is legal offshore, any bets placed from inside Colorado are illegitimate.

Will online casinos be legalized in Colorado soon? Well, there is an initiative in the works to remove the $100 wagering limit at land-based casinos, and the recent legalization of sports betting shows the state is taking a more liberal approach to gambling. Online casinos and online poker may be made legal eventually, but there is no proposal for such change currently.

Online Sportsbooks

As of 1st May 2020, sports gambling, including online sportsbooks, are legal in Colorado. This has opened up a lot of new options for internet gambling for real money. Currently, there are eight live regulated sportsbooks accessible from inside Colorado:

With several options on the market, and more mobile apps in the works ready to be launched in the future, selecting an online sportsbook can seem daunting, yet is the most important step in gambling online. One thing to consider is the welcome bonuses on offer which can give up to $1,000 to wager on their sites. Our sportsbook reviews give you a rundown of exactly what to expect on each site and help you choose the correct website for your needs.

Unfortunately, the global pandemic has drastically impacted the sporting events in Colorado. Many games and tournaments have been canceled or postponed while the US tackles the coronavirus crisis. Therefore, there are limited wagering options on the betting sites, but this is due to a lack of events, not a lack of event coverage. There will be more interesting wagers and a greater variety of sports once events are running as usual. Nevertheless, there are several sports you can still bet on, with table tennis and UFC dominating in the first week of apps being launched.

Online Horse Race Betting

Horse race betting is the longest form of legal gambling in Colorado and is permitted both onsite and online. The only racetrack in the state is the Arapahoe Park Racetrack which runs racing events from May to August each year. There are also eleven off-track betting locations around the state and simulcast wagering when there are no live racing events to attend.

The two major horse race betting websites in Colorado and across the US as a whole are TVG and BetAmerica. These sites allow you to place wagers on Colorado races, races happening across the states, and even international events.

Online Daily Fantasy Sports

The bill legalizing fantasy sports was passed in 2016 and partaking in fantasy contests is another way to win money from anywhere in Colorado. DFS players only need to be 18 years old and so this is a great option for people under 21 to win real money online.

DraftKings and FanDuel are the two leading DFS sites, and combined hold more than 90% of the market share across the United States. Both sites have welcome bonuses and cover a huge variety of sporting events and different contest types. Once you have got the hang of setting up your own fantasy team and playing contests, major events with guaranteed prize pools are where the money is at. For example:

  • FanDuel NFL Sunday Million: Weekly $25 tournament capped at 275,862 participants and has a guaranteed $6 million prize pool. First place wins $1 million, but the top 55,300 get some payout.
  • DraftKings Millionaire Maker: $20 tournament capped at 400,700 participants and has a guaranteed $7 million prize pool. First place wins $1.2 million, but the top 83,000 get some payout.

Online Colorado Lottery

In Colorado, you cannot purchase tickets for jackpot draws or scratch card games online. Instead, you have to head to a licensed retailer and buy your ticket in person. However, the Colorado Lottery does have its own mobile app packed full of lottery information. There is also a handy map feature on the app which will help you find the retailer closest to you! Download today and head out to purchase your ticket.

Although you cannot purchase tickets online, you can purchase tickets in advance for Colorado Lottery jackpot draws called Advance Play. Tickets can be bought up to 13 weeks in advance, meaning you can plan ahead and buy your tickets in one outing.
